I get asked all the time, “How can you afford to travel so much?”.
I used to limit my traveling because I always felt a little guilty pulling money out of my savings or it was a pain to try to save up ‘spending money’ the month before and feeling like I just took a huge chunk out of my checking account. I got tired of feeling broke after going on a trip.
I decided to open a second savings account and title it “Travel Account”. I started taking $25 a week and transferring it into this new Travel Account. Think about it, how easily do you spend $25 in a week? That’s 2 trips to Starbucks and 1 trip out to lunch with co-workers. It’s a small amount of money that you would usually throw away on food and not even miss it! If you put $25 a week in to this new account for one year you would have around $1,200! I eventually started putting in more and more each week to watch my account grow.
You can decide what’s most comfortable for you to set aside for travel, whether it’s $25 a paycheck or $200 a paycheck! Regardless of what the amount is, it will start to add up! This way you can pull money out for plane tickets or spending money without it taking a hit on your checking account or feeling like it’s putting you back financially. This is money that you set aside JUST for TRAVEL! GUILT-FREE!
I saved for a year and had a total of $2,500 and I just kept adding to it! It’s great to have that money set aside to buy great airfare deals when it comes up out of the blue or to withdraw a few hundred dollars before a Vegas trip and not have that guilty feeling! That’s what the money is there for! To spend it on travelling!
And I for one can say that I think it’s very important to go out and LIVE your life and to EXPLORE the world! It’s never money wasted when spending it to travel. You are creating memories that you will carry with you for a lifetime!
Anytime someone asks me how I afford to travel, I always tell them to start a travel account! Start one today and watch how quickly it adds up in a year then book a plane ticket and get out and see the world!
Happy travels 😊
